Enregistré dans le sud du Mali, dans la brousse du village Farakala, le nouvel album de Trilok Gurtu s’annonce comme la production la plus unique de l’artiste. Totalement acoustique, enregistré en prise live, le son singulier de “Farakala” (titre de l’album) surprendra dans sa discographie. Produit par Frédéric Galliano pour le label Frikyiwa, il propulse Trilok Gurtu dans la plus subtile et la plus profonde combinaison indienne et africaine jamais réalisée. Trilok Gurtu a poussé l’expérience jusqu’à abandonner tablas et batterie. C’est en cherchant dans les compositions et dans son appropriation des percussions rares du sud Mali qu’il réussit à faire surgir dans son jeu sonore et ses mélodies toute sa culture indienne mêlées aux vibrations africaines. Ces mélanges, ces interprétations, ces élaborations instinctives et recherchées font de cet album une production profonde, sensuelle, joyeuse et libérée de tous clichés fusion. Sans doute la plus grande simplicité de Trilok Gurtu surgit-elle ici et cet album signe là le talent d’un travail novateur et érudit. Après les enregistrements en Afrique, le projet tourne en Europe avec des musiciens issus du label Frikyiwa et qui représentent la musique africaine vivante d’aujourd’hui, le patrimoine tel qu'il est en train de se transmettre aux nouvelles générations. Après Hadja Kouyaté, Ngou Bagayoko et Filifin, s’adjoignent aujourd’hui à Ali Boulo Santo (kora, chant) un des piliers du projet "Farakala", Aissata Baldé (chant), Bachir Sanogo (kamele n’goni, dozon), Phons (guitare). Ces musiciens africains d'une trentaine d'années expérimentent complètement la dualité de la musique africaine contemporaine, entre Afrique et Occident, le passage d'une génération traditionnelle restée au pays à une jeune génération vivant en exil au contact de sonorités métissées. Trilok, lui, le vit depuis longtemps et avec "Farakala" ce virtuose précurseur continue à ouvrir les chemins de la rencontre entre musique africaine et indienne, enfin en résonance avec toute une génération. Il avait juste quelques années d'avance...
Recorded in the south of Mali, in the bush of the Farakala village, the new album of Trilok Gurtu is announced like the most unique production of the artist. Completely acoustic, recorded live, the amazing sound of "Farakala" (title of the album) will surprise in his discography. Produced by Frederic Galliano for the Frikyiwa label, it propels Trilok Gurtu in the most subtle and the deepest Indian and African combination ever carried out. Trilok Gurtu pushed the experiment until giving up tablas and drums. While seeking in the compositions and appropriating the rare percussions of south Mali, he succeeds in making emerge in his play and his melodies all his Indian culture tangled with African vibrations.
