Olli & the Bollywood OrchestraOlli and The Bollywood Orchestra is inviting you to a great trip between indian and Western musics. The project is directed with passion by his singer and composer Olli. It is the first large musical live and video performance carried by a French singer around the universe of the Bollywood films, a contraction of Bombay and Hollywood, indicating cinematographic industry very characteristic of India.New Album: Tantra (Bassofone! released 2008)
Olli and the Bollywood Orchestra do not belong to the generation who, guided by the music of Ravi Shankar, used to hitch-hike all the way to India on a soul-searching quest in some remote ashram. Avoiding the traps of exotic mimicry they manage to find a tone and a style of their own.
Without giving in to the temptation of creating a simple collage of his influences, Olli goes his own, inventive way, creating new and original musical arrangements where the bass, electric guitars and keyboards mingle with traditional Indian strings and percussion. Olli fuses them into a whole new sound experience, mixing inspirations from the ‘cinema Massala’ (Indian spice-mix), to the Hindi Pop movement, with impulses derived from Hip-Hop, Dub and Rock.
Combining the romantic topics and the great popular songs of the Indian cinema with the subtle ones and personal compositions sung in Hindi, Olli also insufflated a “ banghra” spirit -Banghra is a very rhythmic and joyfull music, originating in Penjâb, North of India - since the meeting with DJ SWAMI in Transmusicales of Rennes. Olli and the Bollywood Orchestra live displays remixed images of the Indian cinema and performs on stage the best songs from the double album “Kitchen” as well as new compositions in Hindi or Penjâbi from the new album "Tantra".
