"The voice of Kiran Ahluwalia is caressing and seductive, the arrangements are beautiful." Songlines. If desire was a musical form, it would be the ghazal, sung poetry of India and Pakistan speaks of unrequited love. If the desire was a kind, it would be the fado, the melancholy song of Portugal, which is also based in poetry. The singer Kiran Ahluwalia, a musical journey that originated in India, raised in Canada, and now lives in New York combines the two traditions in his most recent recording, Wanderlust. As always, she immersed herself in poetry-ancient and modern, to find words for his fascinating melodies. It isone of the few people in the Western Hemisphere to compose original music for ghazals. Kiran's new album uses the Fado, the blues and jazz Saharan Africa, among others. This album reveals theperpetual desire to place the ghazal Kiran in a modern and global. Like his favorite genre, Kiran crossescontinents and unites separate worlds. Kiran has worked with a singer qawalli, Shahid Ali Khan, a formermember of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. It seems natural that a musical journey that creates a bridge across eras, continents and cultures. Discography:Aam Zameen 2011 (World Connection)
